Storia della Fotografia · storiadellafotografia.com
An archive on photography, from 1826 to today.
The timeline, the masters, the brands, the concept map, a glossary and a bookshop. Published, and still growing.

Inside
Six ways into the same story
Timeline
The years, one below the other and two columns for each
Time scrolls like a ribbon: each year opens its own window, and what happens to photography sits beside what happens to the world. Daguerre's 1839 is not an isolated date, it has its own time next to it.
- Photography on one side, historical context on the other
- Each year opens and reads on its own
- From the Chinese and Greek philosophers to today

The masters
The photographers alphabetically, from A to Z
An index, not a list of articles: you pick a letter and see every name that starts with it. Each name opens its own page.
- An alphabetical index, letter by letter
- Two filters: the masters of photography and Italian photographers
- Each name leads to the career, the works and the technical choices

The brands
The companies that made the history of photography
The brands have the same index as the photographers, plus a split by origin: whoever built the cameras, the lenses and the film is where you would look for them.
- American, Asian and European brands
- A section for the Italian ones
- The same alphabetical index as the photographers

Concept map
The whole subject on a single page
Not everyone arrives with a name or a date in mind. The map lays the fields out in boxes — technique, genres, movements, ethics, innovations, publishing — and every entry leads into the archive.
- Boxes by field, from technique to publishing
- Alongside the glossary and the questions and answers
- Every entry leads to the page that explains it

A chronology is not a list of dates. It is a comparison.
In the timeline every year has two columns: what happens to photography on one side, what happens to the world on the other. Side by side, you can read why something arrived exactly when it did.
Requirements
How it is built
WordPress
The site runs on WordPress, on PHP hosting: the bylines write the entries, and adding one does not have to go through us.
WooCommerce
The bookshop lives inside the same site: same address, same basket, no outside service in between.
Built to be found
A search over the archive, structured data on every entry and a sitemap that holds articles, pages and products together.
The other screens
Screens of the published site, not mock-ups.

The site is built and maintained by GIF Web Solutions.
What is it built on?
WordPress on PHP hosting, with WooCommerce for the bookshop. Nothing exotic: the editors work from inside, without going through us.
Can the archive be searched?
Yes. There is a search over the archive at the top of the home page, and every entry carries the structured data search engines need.
How are the contents organised?
By sections — forty-three — and by indexes: the timeline by year, the photographers and the brands alphabetically, the concept map by field.
Are books sold?
Yes, inside the same site: forty-seven titles, with the WooCommerce basket.
Two hundred years of photography. Arranged so they can be found.
Timeline, masters, brands, concept map, glossary and questions: six ways into the same story, plus a shop for whoever wants to carry on in print.
